Description

Healthcare buildings are often defined by their “popular” income-generating spaces. Patient rooms, operating rooms, imaging rooms, and grand public spaces all contribute to creating an image that is presented to patients and defines the character of the building. But what about the other spaces that are required to make a building function? Without attention to detail, the failure to design these spaces correctly will contribute to a building that is inefficient for the users, and costly for operations. Join presenters for a look at successes and failures of the “not so sexy” spaces in healthcare buildings and learn how their design will impact your facility. HSW

Learning Objectives

• Peek behind the scenes and look at good and bad back-of-house rooms such as clean and soiled rooms, medication rooms, environmental services closets and equipment rooms, kitchen and nourishment, locker rooms and break rooms, and sterilization.
• Uncover the design secrets to making back-of-house support spaces better and more functional.
• Walk away with best-practice approaches to the programming and design of these spaces.
• Review successful prototype examples to benchmark against other examples.
