Description
Explore the latest addition to the Military Health System (MHS), the William Beaumont Army Medical Center, described as the “new crown jewel of the MHS” by the U.S. Army Surgeon General. The MHS has special resiliency requirements for incident preparedness and continuity of operations under emergency conditions, which has driven a deliberate approach to flexible and adaptable design. Presenters will share how lessons learned from this military case study in resilience are transferable to the greater healthcare industry and they will demonstrate the holistic building design principles of resiliency for today’s military healthcare through an immersive walk-through.
Tracks:
Learning Objectives
• Describe the Military Health System room template designs and their implementation.
• Explore how flexibility and adaptability in design supports a medical facility’s resilience in a range of conditions.
• Demonstrate how early massing, blocking, and stacking prepare health systems for unpredictable conditions.
• Evaluate how military planning and room-level design standards can be applied to the greater healthcare industry.
