Description

You never know where a person will go sideways, it’s not just in acute psychiatric units, it’s everywhere else, including med/surg rooms, EDs and so forth. So, how do we “mind the gap”. The need to improve care for those suffering from adverse effects of co-occurring medical and psychiatric illness is a clinical imperative. Innovative solutions include the development of specialized acute care. Complexity intervention units, and ‘behavioral friendly rooms’ provide concurrent medical and psychiatric care in holistic, patient-centered ways. This presentation will compare two systems, Froedtert Medical Center and Boston Children’s Hospital. Each will tell their story that will resonate with healthcare providers today.
