Description

As COVID-19 continues to affect the U.S. and world, we continue to look for best practices and strategies that allow health systems to continue to treat patients and keep them safe. This presentation concisely outlines potential strategic, operational, and facility design considerations, based on the scale of the health system or facility, demographics, and the rate of infection in the community. Presenters will discuss a range of solutions, where they might be applicable, and their cost impacts, duration, and technical complexity to determine appropriate applications with the ultimate goal of also improving patient satisfaction and outcomes.

Learning Objectives

• Identify potential short-term design solutions that will address the health and safety of COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients and staff.
• Evaluate design solutions based on technical complexity, cost, duration, and outcomes to determine if they are viable improvements for your client or organization.
• Consider design tools for streamlining and optimizing patient safety and satisfaction and how these tools will impact overall operations (e.g., electronic registration and check-in, patient portals, concierge service, vehicular circulation, and wayfinding)
• Examine specific case studies that have forced health systems to quickly pivot, resulting in a positive improvement in process, patient access, patient satisfaction, and infection control.
