Description

Less than half of Americans suffering from mental illness received treatment in recent years, and one major reason for this disparity is the stigma surrounding mental health facilities. As healthcare providers seek to normalize psychiatric care, healthcare designers are doing more than designing compliant, anti-ligature facilities. They’re actively changing the conversation surrounding behavioral health treatment. During this session, CannonDesign, Skanska, and San Mateo County will discuss the ways designers and contractors can help owners transform the future of behavioral healthcare design, to eliminate stigma and improve the care environment, citing examples from the Cordilleras Health System Behavioral Health Campus as a case study.
