Description

Two major forces that will shape our collective future are converging, as baby boomers retire and global CO2 levels rise. The 2030 Challenge was established 17 years ago to challenge design professionals to be better advocates of energy-efficient practices and stewards of our environment and resources. We’re rapidly approaching 2030, and there is still very much room for improvement in the industry, specifically within the senior living sector. This session will identify senior living-specific strategies to reach these ambitious goals and will extend beyond comfort zones to look at lifecycle costs, embodied carbon, and the impact to the triple bottom line.

Track(s)

Learning Objectives

• Explain strategies to reach carbon neutrality specific to senior living environments.
• Identify “low-hanging fruit” that can be incorporated into all design projects.
• Demonstrate how operators can approach carbon neutrality within their community.
• Evaluate how other “non-energy” sustainable strategies may apply to design of senior living.
