Description

Populations worldwide are aging rapidly, and providing supportive environments is crucial for improving health outcomes, extending older adults’ abilities, and reducing caregiver burdens. Research shows that physical, built environments set the stage and support physically and socially active and engaged aging and play a significant role in improving health outcomes, increasing participation, and facilitating engagement in older people. This session will present practical applications of recent research to architects, designers, facility managers, and healthcare providers, focusing on how design of communities and individual buildings can improve older adults’ health outcomes and maximize their functional abilities and well-being.
